For those of you have visited here before you will notice that there is a new look here! Yay! It has only taken me three weeks (I know I should be ashamed to admit that) to get here. I feel pretty good about the design the layout and the code all in all (though I will admit that if you were to look at your page source right now you would say my code is pretty messy). So the plan of attack was suppose to be simple there were two elements. They were:
*Build a blank shell-this way I could customize all my blogs
*To NOT "back hack" an already existing template-research, do the tutorials, look at them from a frame of reference, but in the end type it all myself so I understand what I am doing.
Now I thought I was a pretty savvy when it came to this stuff, but it only took me a minute to realize how antiquated my knowledge of the HTML and CSS really is. The new "layout" format made my brain hurt. It wasn't that I couldn't have figured it out, I just didn't want to take the time. Just glancing at it made me think, "I don't want to have to take the time to learn a new language just to do this."
So to accomplish both my objectives I had to revert back to the classic Blogger template. This has it's drawbacks, yes. If I was using labels (like I do on one of my other blogs) I would have to make my label directory by hand, and edit it manually each time I make a new label. There is no newer/older post navigation in terms of linking to the permalinks (again unless I wanted to do it manually every time I logged a new post), and I am just hoping the site feed is generally the same is both forms.
But I did it, all on my own, and it looks pretty good. Pretty much how I envisioned it looking (there are a couple of superficial background tweaks I had to work around). And this really excites me to no end. Even though it is old school, I feel like I am getting back in the swing of things, and I need that.
You will notice I am missing a picture in my personal description (working on that) and most of my sidebar content is still missing. That is because it hasn't been compiled yet, but the code is there and that is what counts right now. Gimme a couple a weeks and I will have some fun stuff up in the sidebar. Until then, I am just happy the template is complete!
