How can you be so smart and so clueless at the same time?

I am going to be so happy when the election is over. I am so tired of the all the bad behavior being perpetrated under the guise of being in my best interest. And I am so tired of being told I am wrong and am ruining America. But lets not be so pessimistic. Can I tell you I saw my favorite movie of the year in October. That movie is Argo. If you haven't seen it, you should. Lastly, have I shared Lizzie Bennet with you yet? If you are an Austen fan you need to check this.

Boy the end of the year is getting close...this could start getting ugly.

1. Drink more water
Yes, I have been drinking more water, but I don't think it's helping.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
I did post a photo to Leaky Light in October. I have loved this sign for years and this day the light just seemed perfect. http://leakylight.blogspot.com

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
Still working on it, but I think forward momentum here has stopped.

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
XXXXXXXXXX

5. Read 12 books in a year
I got three more under my belt in October, The Psychopath Test, 11/22/63 and the Gun Seller. Also, I have added my list for the year to the sidebar.

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
36+2! So October was a light movie month. I don't know why, I guess I had other things to do. But as always you can check out what have seen so far at http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com. Also I've added a list to the sidebar.

7. See 100 movies in 100 days
It's official. This goal is being laid to rest in the cemetery of broken dreams. I just can't see myself getting it done right now, and I want it to be fun, I don't want to push it. So I think I am going to take the ambition of this goal and apply to the above mentioned goal. Maybe I will change the above number from 36 to 50 or something...we'll see.

8. Complete a printed family recipe book
November is going to be such a crazy month for me with baby showers and the Festival of Trees. I don't think this one is going to get done.

9. Start a novel
No movement since last month.

10. Start an etsy store
No movement...still

11. Renew my passport
Nope

12. "Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite"
Maybe I should re-read the book.

13. Learn to meditate
Nope

A Rock In The Pit Of My Stomach

I have worked really hard all weekend to NOT think about what is going to happen tomorrow. On Friday, Monday was weighing on me. I was all worried about how it is going to go.  I am a worst case scenario kind of girl and a lot things didn't happen the way they should have over the last two weeks.

So, I did really good this weekend. I didn't let Monday get to me...until now. Monday is a rock sitting in the pit of my stomach, rolling with the rumbles and weighing me down. This may apply to any Monday or every Monday, but ultimately it applies to this Monday...

Should I call in sick tomorrow?

Why do you always listen to me when I don't want you to?

I think I have mentioned this before, but as of late I have been spending a lot of time on YouTube. More than I should be. But I have found some great stuff to watch (and I will admit some not so great stuff too). One of my favorite channels right now is the Vlog Brothers. Everyday I find something new and interesting (and many times funny). I can't decide which one to show you, so I think you are going to get three. One up front and couple down below.

But on to what this post is really about, my goals.

1. Drink more water
Yes, yes I have been drinking more water.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
Sadly I've got nothing going on here. I am afraid this is turning into one of the many dorment blogs I have.

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
If you take everything into consideration, I am up about $3500 for the year, but I don't see it growing much more than that.

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
Well, I knew I wasn't going to get them all done.

5. Read 12 books in a year
Well, I didn't log any "books" this last month. I switched over the audio dramas. I really like the Byron Chronicles even though the production quality isn't as good as Leviathan. My birthday though has helped me out greatly in regard. October is definitely going to be a book month.

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
36! Yes that is 36 movies, I did it! I am going to be able to cross at least one of my list. My last movie (toward the goal) was Looper, which wasn't that good. That means everything else I see this year is gravy...and there is still plenty to see. Like always you can check out what have seen so far at http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

Oh my God, if I want this done for Christmas I need to get a move on.

9. Start a novel
Actually, I started something that could have the potential to be novel some day. So at least I've started.

10. Start an etsy store
No movement since last month

11. Renew my passport
Nope

12. "Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite"
What was I thinking

13. Learn to meditate

The State of Affairs

I am kind of in a pissy mood. Which is unusual because the coming of Autumn generally lifts me up. Today, was great in that regard, the coming of Autumn I mean. I actually had to grab a jacket when I walked out the door this morning. At lunch there was still the slightest bit of bite in the air, and if that wasn't enough, we only had to run the A/C in the Media office for a half day. And yet, my mood is still foul.

Local matters: I have three shared server hosting plans. Why do I have my websites set up this way? Because my knowledge of server management is minimal now, and back when I set this stuff up it was non existent. So being completely honest here, I haven't touched a single one of them in months, and only one is really set in a presentable state. Over the weekend I went looking for some files. I couldn't find them locally so I thought I would get online and see if I could at least find the finished files for reference. So I started poking around the file manager for one of the less presentable projects and found a folder that looked unfamilar, but like I said, it had been months since I had done work with any of the sites. I started bouncing around and my jaw dropped. I found some of the most vile, disgusting file names I had ever read. I didn't dare open a single one of them because the names scared me so badly. Someone had hacked into my account and was not only storing porn (among other things) within one of my dormant sites, but they were directing traffic to it! The visitor stats showed high traffic for the last 3-1/2 months! I was sick, like maybe I should cancel the whole account, sick. Needless to say, I changed the password to the control panel and the FTP. Then I started deleting folders without a second glance. Traffic is still kind of high to the site, but visitors are almost exclusively getting 404 errors. If there is any justice in the world whoever did this was also storing some sort of vital information with all their vile shit and I deleted something crucial to their livelihood or well being. It bothers me that I would wish detriment to another person over what I am sure they saw as a somewhat victimless crime, but like I said, this made me absolutely sick. Then after I got over being sick I got mad...really, really fucking mad.

Finances: I am not going to go into much detail on this one mostly because it is not my story to tell. I am only a tangential on looker, but it is another one of those, wishing harm or detriment to a person. It blows my mind that there are people (seemingly well-off, affluent people) in the world that will swindle other, hard working, middle income people out of their life savings; out of every penny they've put away for security. Now, I am not talking identity theft, or property theft. I am not talking about something as impersonal as a stranger stealing your credit card at the mall. I am talking about someone you know and trust convincing you that they can "make your money grow...to ensure a better future". Someone you've been to see and know by first name; someone you have broken bread with; someone who has been introduced to you and vouched for by a most trusted confidant. It gets me heated just thinking about it. No matter how you try to spin the situation, no matter how optimistic you try to be, it is moments like this that shake my faith and trust in all people. So it almost goes without saying if I was in the same room as this man and he was on fire, I wouldn't even take the time to piss on him.

World Affairs: Fight, flight or freeze, the three potential autonomic responses we have to conflict. I am not ashamed to say that my natural response to conflict has always been (and for the foreseeable future will be) flight. Therefore it should not be a surprise when I grudgingly admit that I was one of "those" kids. One of those kids who would take their toys and go home if a fight arose. That's kind of how I am feeling now about these attacks on U.S. embassies and American citizens. Now I know that current International situations are too complex to simply say, "Ok. we're locking the doors. The keys are under the mat. Do what you will with the what we've left behind. We're going home." But when I hear about attacks on our people, on what, for all intents and purposes, is American soil I can't help but think that the U.S. needs to go back to being an isolationist country. I understand the mantra "those who can, should" and I think I believe the line "all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing", but why should we fight to be somewhere we are obviously not wanted. I have this twisted "ex-girlfriend" idea. America walks out of the Middle-East with a slam of the door and yells over "her" shoulder as "she" steps off the porch, "But don't you dare call me when you can't figure out how to turn on the washing machine!" We all like to think we will be needed long after we're gone, and that usually isn't the case, but it would be nice to find out. Like I said before this really isn't a viable solution to the problem. It would be like putting a Band-Aid on an arterial bleed. Still it was my first reaction when hearing the news.

The Personals: I am feeling like a bit of a failure. For all the responsibility I have I am feeling rather unfulfilled and more than a little abused. I think it might be time to move on, but I am feeling so low about everything I can't imagine I would make a good impression anywhere else. It's a vicious circle. I have been made to feel so small and afraid I can't imagine being anywhere or doing anything else, but I am so unhappy I can't bear the thought of staying where I am. Perhaps, I am being a little too dramatic, it's not like I am hiding bruises or barely scraping by. But really, how much is my time worth? Because I have kind of decided that is all life is really about, trading time. And if that's the case I feel I have to ask, how much time is my soul worth? Because some days I feel like it's slipping away. Family is getting more and more complicated. Two babies due the end of the year, one planned, one not, and a million opinions no one wants to hear. So take a dash of jealousy, mix it in with some stubbornness and a couple of noses that can't seem to stay out of peoples business and I am ready to join the circus, or move to Toronto. At the very least I think we should consider cancelling Christmas. Then this guy, oh my lord, this guy is freaking me out. It's like one day everything is fine and normal. We're all chill, I know what he's like and he knows what I'm like and there are no expectations because we are just friends. No really, he's a bit of a pyro so I feel pretty confident in saying he burned that bridge down awhile ago. He's kind of a player and I can't fault him for that if he can pull that lifestyle off. But then he hears through a friend of a friend that an ex of his is getting married and all of the sudden things change. Maybe he is changing in all aspects of his life, but all I can see is how he is changing towards me. Then again, our sordid past kind of started with a "mis-communication", so it isn't out of the realm of possibility that I am reading more into things than I should. Maybe that's what's really freaking me out. I am starting to see the old days in him, the days before burned bridges; Wickham before the truth came out. I can't help but feel like he's playing me like the old days, but I can't be sure 'cause I thought we were past all that. So my head is spinning. Why is it that all my male relationships (romantic or platonic...but mostly...well exclusively platonic) lately are with guys from my past that have problems. Back when I wanted to be a savior they didn't want anything do to with me, and now...I don't know...there is something seriously wrong with me.

Boy, I had more to say than I thought. This is pretty long. I'm not sure you'll get to the end of it but even if you don't get to the end I feel pretty good about getting out. Maybe I will wake up tomorrow "lighter".

I do want to give you a treat if you happen to make it this far. This is my latest find on YouTube. The channel is called The Beauty Inside. A little back story because I'm not embedding the first episode. The story is about a man who wakes up every day with a different body and face. I know it sounds super sci-fi, but it's not, it's a real compelling drama.

Eating Snow in September

I feel like a little randomness.

Eating snow in September. A nice fluffy powder that boarders and skiers alike wait all year for. There's nothing like inhaling that cold, airy goodness and having it the back of your throat. It's one of the more thirst quenching experiences to have. So, without a doubt, the best purchase I have made so far this year was my cheap snow cone maker, and that is not a statement to be made lightly. Keep in mind this year I have also purchased a new computer, upgraded Adobe to CS6, bought an office chair, and some cute new clothes. But still, the snow cone maker takes it...so far.

Youtube has finally sucked me in. Over the last 6 days I have watched all five seasons of "The Guild"  and watched all 44 episodes of "The Lizzie Bennett Diaries". Plus my usuals, Harto and Ze, and my semi-usuals HISHE and Geek and Sundry (on Monday and Thursdays - thats The Flog and Table Top). This is starting to sound a little pathetic...I might need an intervention...this is worse than television.

Maybe I need to challenge myself to spend less time online. What would a good starting threshold be?

You're stoned is depressing. You should never share your feelings....ever.

Ahhh...another remake, I will shamefully admit that I have never seen the first Red Dawn, but this new one has me a little intrigued. It has Jeffery Dean Morgan in it, so I will watch it no matter what, but I think it might have potential regardless (even if the guys at work disagree)

But now for goals...I am feeling a little more optimistic this month

1. Drink more water
Since I got my shaved ice machine, yes my water consumption has gone back up.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
No pictures this month.

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
I have made tentative progress on this...but that is all I am allowed to say.

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
Hmmm...

5. Read 12 books in a year
So I started the year with 2 under my belt almost immediately. Then nothing, until last month. I devoured 4 books (due to the headphone policy being lifted). I read "The Discovery of Witches", "Six Days of the Condor", "The Son of Neptune", and "Persuasion". That puts me at 6, which is technically behind schedule I still feel good about it.

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
I am up to 32. That means I only need to see 4 more movies this year to make this goal. I have every intention of seeing plenty more than that. So this is good too. Like always you can check out what have seen so far at http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

No movement on this one yet. I need to get my butt in gear though if I want it done for Christmas.

9. Start a novel
Uhhh...not quite yet

10. Start an etsy store
I have signed up for a new etsy account and have looked at the store module. The store will eventually be called "Ambelen's Craft Closet. Look for it before the end of the year.

11. Renew my passport
Nope

12. "Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite"

What Time Changes

I was doing some digital cleanup in my blogger account. I started going through my "reading list" There are a few blogs in there that I stopped reading some time ago. They belonged to people who have since moved on to other writing outlets. Here is the best part those blog names, urls, rss feeds, whatever you want to call it have been picked up by new people. I have these complete strangers in my reading list talking about art and tattoos...I find it deliciously funny.

There's nothing cheap about loyalty

Why are we loyal?
Why are we loyal when we know it isn't deserved?
What is the price of your loyalty?
Does it cost more for those who do not deserve, but can still afford it?
Is it still loyalty if there are pre-determined lines and limits to the affinity?

I watch people slave away for the idea regardless of who is actually holding the whip. Add that to the new concept of "Keeping your job is the new raise." And I really wonder what they are slaving away for...the hope of building something better of the fear of not being able to maintain what they have already built.

I am no different. Despite my best efforts I still find myself bending over backwards for people who probably don't deserve it. I am starting to wonder if I am short selling my loyalty. But at the same time I feel so guilty when I don't give it. So what have the big anonymous "They" done to make me feel so beholden to them?

Needless to say, I am struggling.

I keep getting all these dating pop-ups. It's like my computer is accusing me of being single!

Two videos this time. The first is the Argo movie trailer, which I will admit I have posted before, but it is so good it deserves posting again. Second is a preview of White Collar, season premiere in 9 days.

But now for goals...which are slipping I might add.

1. Drink more water
Not as much as I should, but yes I am still drink water.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
No pictures this month.

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
Ooo...lets not talk about this one...

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
Nose crinkle...nope.

5. Read 12 books in a year
Ah...I have started like 3 books, none of which I can bring myself to finish...yet

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
I am up to 25. So well ahead of schedule. You can check out what have seen so far at http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

Maybe after I get all my fonts installed on this new computer I can come back to this.

9. Start a novel
I am working on a treatment for this great idea I've had. We'll have to see if anything comes of it.

10. Start an etsy store

If it's so simple, why haven't you done it already?

I try to avoid the word simple when I am talking about someone else's work, by which I mean, something someone else is doing or more importantly something I am asking someone else to do. Every time someone says to me:

  • I need you do this. It should be simple.
  • I've got this simple/easy thing for you to do.
  • Don't worry, it's simple.
  • It's shouldn't take that long, it's simple

I know what they are going to ask me is not simple. When someone comes up to me with one of these lines I usually I think to myself, "If it is so God damn simple why are you asking me to do it? Why can you do it yourself?" Then I think, "You wouldn't say it's simple if you had ever done it before."

The truth of the matter is, it is not the giver, but the receiver who dictates what is simple. Yes, we know that solving a complex math equation is harder than picking all the red M&Ms out the candy bowl, but what if the person you are asking is color blind? Lastly, even if it is simple, it doesn't mean that it won't take time. Simple does not equal quick. It's pretty simple to go through the phonebook and count all Maryann's, but that doesn't mean it won't take a lot of time. I mean, have you picked up a phone book lately? There are a lot pages there.

So, the next time you think about asking someone to do something "simple" for you, I would recommend that you don't insult them by telling them how menial the task is that you can't bothered to do.

Saturday, June 02, 2012

It's Saturday. Technically I'm a day and a half early.

I love ze. He says and does all the things I would love to say and do. Anyway he has does a number of good episodes on his new show, but this new one I really like :)

And now for my goals...lets see how May worked out for me.

1. Drink more water
Maybe I need someone to define "more" for me. I am drinking water, I just don't think I am drinking "more" water.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
Yay! I got three or four posts up on Leaky Light last month. You can check them out at http://leakylight.blogspot.com

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
I did get a raise at work, but it doesn't equate to ^ this...so I still need work on this one.

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
I think I am moving in the wrong/opposite direction for this one.

5. Read 12 books in a year
:X

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
I am up to 20. So I am still on schedule. You can check out what have seen so far at http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

7. See 100 movies in 100 days
Yeah, I just don't see this one happening. It was ambitious from the start and I knew it. If things at work don't settle done, I just won't have time to do this.

8. Complete a printed family recipe book
:X

9. Start a novel

10. Start an etsy store

11. Renew my passport

Argo!

I went to see Dark Shadows last night and there was a trailer for the new Ben Affleck movie called Argo. First, can I say I am SO excited to Ben Affleck back in the movies (directing and acting). Second, this movie looks like it is going to rock. I love the whole idea behind it and when you take into account that it is based on actual events, I just don't think it can get much better. The only short fall, I think we have to wait until October to see it.

Never say awesome. You're a grown man.

Let me just start with the TV highlight of April: Mal and Jayne getting back together for one amazing night on ABC's Castle

But for the goals - keep in mind this is about the time of give up on them (for awhile).

1. Drink more water
:P

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
Maybe I should go through my Vegas pics and see if something is worth posting

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
I got something in the works, but I am not going to talk about it right now

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
:X

5. Read 12 books in a year
:X

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
I am up to 16. Still on schedule. Check them out here: http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

7. See 100 movies in 100 days
I am thinking this one is coming off my list. I am not sure it is going to be feasible, not unless I can get the money to fund it through kickstarter...hmmm I may be on to something.

8. Complete a printed family recipe book
I haven't worked on this for a few weeks now, but I should get back to it.

9. Start a novel
:X

10. Start an etsy store

11. Renew my passport

12. "Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite"
Still wondering what I was thinking.

Transmission end ###

My attitude is based on how you treat me.

Are you a nice person?
  • A person who is nice to you, but not nice to the waiter, is not a nice person. Lets take the title a step further. A person who is nice to you, but not nice to the people around you, is not a nice person.
  • A person who claims to be your friend, who nice to the people around you, but is not nice to you is not only not your friend, but not a nice person.
  • It is no secret that we put up with our friends when they are at their worst because we know them at their best, but if you can not remember your friend at their best then chances are they are not a nice person.
  • A person who is mean to you and tells you it is for you own good, is not only a mean person, but this person knows they are mean and takes pleasure in it.
  • A person who uses passion as an excuse to be mean is simply arrogant and is cheapening that which he or she is claiming to be passionate about.
  • A person who shows great charity to the world, but chooses to with hold it from an individual for no reason is not a nice person.
----------
"It’s funny how the fear of offending is greater than the fear of pain. You knew something was wrong. You knew you would end up strung up in the basement. Yet you came back. And all I had to do was…offer you a drink." - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
----------

Do not mistake my nicety, or polite behavior, as weakness or acceptance. Understand that I simply have a higher tolerance for offensiveness than you would like me to.

Frankly, I have always been a bitch, it just that I don't wear it as a badge of honor, and if you haven't seen it come out in me it simply means you have not pushed hard enough yet, or you aren't worth the bother.

----------

Why have I felt the need to bullet all these thoughts? I find myself in a dilemma and I am trying to clarify my position. Can I really call myself a nice person? I think so. Do I have the right to think that he is not a nice person? And have I put up with it for so long because of my fear of offending? I still don't know what to do....

For argument sake, let's say this man didn't own a Delorian and is from the 21st century.

I am not a Glee fan and the above clip is not from Glee, but I am pretty excited for Mr. Bomer to do his guest appearance because not only is he beautiful, he has a voice that makes you want to fall in love.

I haven't done much blogging lately. It seems like the times I need it the most are the times I am least compelled to sit down and do it. In the back of my head I know it would help clean out the garbage and  I should just pound a few rants out to get the juices flowing...but I am still stumbling along.

Anyway, can you believe this year is already one quarter over. That sickens and frightens me. But on to the goals tally.

1. Drink more water
So - so...it happens. More than it did last year but not as much as it should.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
Well...it is still "up" but nothing new has been added to it this year...yet.

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
Ha ha...I had no idea what kind of joke this was going to be...

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
Maybe after Vegas.

5. Read 12 books in a year
No forward momentum since last month.

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
I am up to 13. This is probably the strongest goal I have right now... If you want to know what I have seen so far and what I thought of them check out http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

7. See 100 movies in 100 days
Still working out the logistics on this one, but it is still happening. I was leaning more toward Summer but I am thinking now more like Winter.

8. Complete a printed family recipe book
This one is pulling a strong 2nd to #6 for achievement. The basic layout is mocked up. I have a good start on which recipes to put in. Next step is typing...lots of typing. I am aiming for Mother's day, but we will see.

9. Start a novel
Nope

10. Start an etsy store
No

11. Renew my passport
Research only.

12. "Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite"
What was I thinking...

13. Learn to meditate
Nope, not yet.

Isn't there a child's balloon you need to pop somewhere?

"So how are those goals coming along?" you may ask. Well now that TAD is over let me give you the "Shmeh, as well as they ever go." answer.

1. Drink more water
This one is actually going "okay". January was really good for my water consumption. February I slipped a little. I didn't drink as much as I should have, but more than I usually do. So I will have to step it up for March.

2. Keep Leaky Light alive
This will probably be my excuse for a lot things in this post, but TAD kept me pretty busy in February (no excuse for January though) so nothing has been done on this one yet.

3. Increase my take home income by $6000 this year
Interesting development here. I found out that freelancing is "frowned upon" by the executive level at my place of employment. This confounds me a little, because as far as I know this hasn't been the case in the past, and I don't ever remember getting the memo about the change. But it was mentioned to me after my boss overheard me talking about an extracurricular project I was working on. Needless to say, this puts a bit of a kink in this goal, so we will see how it goes.

4. Be the lady that would accompany that gentlemen to that party
Oh...lets not even go there this time around.

5. Read 12 books in a year
From 2 to 2-1/2 this one really isn't going well, but I am still ahead technically.

6. Watch 36 movies in a year
I am up to 9. So I am crusin' on this goal. If you want to know what I have seen so far and what I thought of them check out http://spoiling-it.blogspot.com

7. See 100 movies in 100 days
Still working out the logistics on this one, but it is still happening. I am leaning more toward Summer.

8. Complete a printed family recipe book
This one has been simmering on the back burner for a couple of months now, but I sketched up a rough layout this morning and have an inDesign doc open right in another space.

9. Start a novel
Haven't started this one either but I found a site called Kickstarter that has given me a little hope that might get it done, at least from a logistical stand point (not necessarily a creative one).

10. Start an etsy store
Nope, but with TAD over, I have a couple of things that might be worth posting.

11. Renew my passport
Ah...nothing yet, but lets just say it might be important to have this done by August...

12. "Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite"
Umm...no...not really. Maybe a couple of false starts, but nothing concrete.

13. Learn to meditate
Nope, not yet.

#29 Bleached T-shirts

I will admit, I am a little disappointed with my end. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. This is my second attempt bleaching t-shirts, I guess I still have a lot to learn. Just because February is ending doesn’t mean I have to stop, so I will have try a 3rd time. All and all my mom and I have had a lot of fun this year. Everyone has been wonderful (as usual) and I am happy that Thing-A-Day moved back to WordPress. I have seen an amazing amount of creative things and it is inspiring. Hope to see you all again next year :) Stay creative! -Amber

#28 Zipper Flower

Once again, this is Pinterest inspired. A flower made out of a zipper. I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet, but I think it would make a cute gift topper.

#27 Pinback Buttons

Pinback buttons are always my safe fall back :) I am happy it has taken me this long to do one. I read this phrase a while back and thought they were good words to live by. So, why not put them on a pin.

#26 Button Letter

I should have thought about this one a little harder. By the last 2 dozen buttons I was ready to quit. But as with many of my projects this was a pinterest inspiration. I printed off a large “Times” letter A and traced it onto a 12 x 12 canvas (that I previously dry brushed a with a little gold paint) and then filled it in with green buttons. I didn’t have quite enough so I used some white buttons too(which was a mistake against a white canvas). And then after I was satisfied with the locations of the buttons I pulled out the hot glue gun and started gluing…

#25 Shiny

This was a fun quick project. More fun glass from the craft store, some Pledge floor wax and a bit of glitter. Fill your glass with a bit of floor wax, swish it around a bit to coat the entire inside of the glass then pour the excess out. I would let it set for just a minute to let the foam settle and make sure that all the excess is poured out. Then take your glitter and pour a bunch into the glass container. Swish the glitter around so it coats the entire inside of the glass and dump out the excess. And voila, pretty, shiny, glittery glass.

#24 Just Not Feelin' It Video

I wanted to do an art video as one of my projects. This is far from what I planning on doing. But with my lack of motivation I think it turned out okay. If you can’t see the video let me know. My youtube setting are a little funny :)

#23 Red Glass

I found a really nice red bottle at the craft store about 2 weeks ago. I decided to spice it up with a little vinyl. I added some black retro circles. I had some trouble getting them to lay flat so I will probably have to do this one again, but I think it still looks okay.

#22 Cake Balls

So I don’t know if everyone is having this trouble, but I feel like I am losing steam. Anyway, I had these half done carrot cake balls in the freezer, so I pulled them out and finished them off with white chocolate.

#21 Coloring with Crayons

Oh my gosh! I had seen this more than once on Pinterest and tonight I decided I was going to try it and can I say this is the most fun I have had doing a TAD project this year. 16″ x 20″ canvas, cheap crayons, some hot glue, and a blow dryer. I should have stopped the melting about 1o minutes earlier than I did, but I was just having so much fun :)

#20 Calorie Free Cupcake

My mom and I were shopping last week at the craft store and we saw the cutest little paper cupcakes. A little internet research gave us a good starting point, but we have worked all week trying to figure out the finer points. This is what we have so far. I am not posting a template or instructions because they just aren’t quite there yet.

#19 Orange Creamsicle Cookies

I found this recipe via Pinterest on this blog: http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2010/04/creamsicle-cookies.html I added a lot more orange. 2 Tablespoons of orange juice and another Tablespoon of Zest. They turned out pretty good I think. Oh, and I have been told that this isn’t common knowledge, so I will say it just in case. Yes, that is a piece of bread in the cookie jar with the cookies. Adding a piece of bread (even just a half piece) keeps the cookies soft.

#18 Gift Box

In my search for paper to make a birthday card, I found this really cute paper that I thought we be good pretty up a box with. So I some cutting and snipping and a bit of Modge Podge and I think turned this plain white jewelry gift box into a cute card holder box, “For You”.

#17 Birthday Card

This one is pretty self explanatory. It is a cute little pink and green birthday card.

#16 Discretionary Funds

I folded a five pointed modular star out of my budgeted weekly money. It makes it harder to spend :)

#15 Cookie Bowls

Tonight I attempted to make cookie bowls. Though it was an worthy effort, they didn’t turn out the best. I was laying sugar cookie dough over the bottom side of a muffin pan, but the dough was too greasy and sank making the sides too thin. I tried a dozen or so times and only two came out :( But they do hold ice cream well.

#14 My Valentine For You

This year I decided I wasn’t going to send my holiday cards via Blue Mountain or Hallmark this year. So I signed up for a email marketing service called Mail Chimp so I could send my own custom created email cards. Above is the graphic I created for my Valentine’s Day card. If you want to see the whole email (with the a TAD plug in there too) you can view it here http://us4.campaign-archive2.com/?u=cc127218a9bce97cd54da2f09&id=852b7b22be&e. You could even sign up to get them if you wanted the occasional email from me.

#13 Homemade Hooch

Okay maybe semi-homemade hooch. I saw this on Pinterest, candy flavored vodka. It’s simple, put your favorite sugar based candy in a mason jar, fill it up with vodka, and let the candy dissolve. These jars have set for 2 days, working left to right: Spring Cherries (not dissolved yet), Wildberry Skittles, Tropical Starbursts, and Cinnamon Jelly Hearts (not dissolved yet). I added some pretty paper to the tops today.

Honestly, this project didn’t turn out well. I am not a vodka drinker in general, but I thought it I could make it taste a little more like candy I might enjoy it. That was not the case. I have tasted all of these. The Skittles and the Spring Cherries tasted a lot like cough syrup, bad cough syrup, the Skittles more than the Cherries surprisingly enough. The Starburst vodka had a hint of coconut but really just had a sugary taste. The Cinnamon was by far the best, but still had a horrible after taste. I wouldn’t do this again.
